Role of the Green Belt

Green Belts facilitate teams and are critical in deploying the Six Sigma culture throughout the organization. Green Belts lead projects in their specific functional area and often serve as highly effective team members on Black Belt projects. Since a Green Belt is only required to spend 20 percent of their time on Six Sigma work, it allows front line managers, process engineers and quality department personnel to participate in the program. This exposure to the various departments provides for an efficient way to reach critical mass in an organization.
Candidates for the Green Belt program include anyone with process and product knowledge, basic math fundamentals, organization familiarity, solid communication and team facilitation skills. Green Belts should be self-starters, be open-minded and have a desire to drive change in an organization. They should be a team player and well respected by their peers.

Help spread the Six Sigma culture by practicing the methodology in their day-to-day job activities.
Successfully complete small scale improvement projects in their respective areas.
Support Black Belts and Master Black Belts on high impact cross-functional Projects.
Develop the communication skills necessary to interact with all levels of an organization.
Program Description

Green Belt training takes two months consisting of two 5-day training phases covering Define and Measure in the first phase and Analyze, Improve and Control in the second phase. There is a four-week application period after each phase. During the application period, the participants return to their work environments and apply the tools and methodologies on their projects. On-site project support is typically supplied by the organization's certified Black Belts to ensure candidate understanding and application of the methodology. When required, a Jewish Professionals Master Black Belt will provide the support. The second training session begins with a formal review of the candidate's projects. The review consists of a ten-minute presentation to the Green Belt class and their champions.
